ABOUT THE TOWN

Home of Illinois Route 66 Heritage

The town features one of the few remaining two-sided Route 66 alignments in Illinois, where travelers can still drive portions of the original Mother Road through downtown.
Dwight was once a major stop for travelers arriving by both Route 66 and the historic Alton Railroad, giving the town a long-standing connection to American transportation history.
Dwight is home to the beautifully restored Ambler-Becker Texaco Station, one of the most iconic and best-preserved gas stations on all of historic Route 66.

Dwight is home to the Ambler-Becker Texaco Station, one of the best-preserved service stations on all of Route 66. Built in 1933, it served motorists for 66 years, first as a Texaco station and later as Becker’s Marathon. When it closed in 1999, it was one of the longest-operating gas stations anywhere along the Mother Road. The site was donated to the village in 2002 and reopened as a Route 66 visitor center.

MEET THE ARTIST

Artist Extraordinaire

Hello, my name is Stephan Connor, I’m the one man show at Conman Painting, which is located in a barn my great great grandfather built on our family farm. I’ve been fully in the paint business for 25 years. I have 4 wonderful children and am married to the love of my life Erin. I was honored to be selected by Odell and Dwight (where I live) to paint 2 Route 66 benches. I hope you enjoy them, thank you.
